About WheelbarrowMath
WheelbarrowMath is a set of free calculators for home and yard projects. Each one answers the questions you have standing in the garden center: how much do I need, in what form, and what will it cost?
How the Calculators Work
- Your inputs stay in your browser and page address. The math runs on your device. Your inputs are saved in the page address, so you can bookmark your results or send the link to someone. Anyone who opens that link sees the same numbers. Nothing is stored on our side beyond ordinary web server logs.
- The math is tested. Every calculator is built on a small library of unit conversions and geometry with automated tests, including the worked examples on each page.
- Rounding is honest. You can’t buy 13.5 bags, so we round up, and we tell you when we do. Bulk orders round up to the half yard or half ton most suppliers sell in.
Where the Numbers Come From
Depths, coverage, and installation details come from university extension services (Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska), manufacturer installation guides (Allan Block, Basalite, Alliance Gator), and established retailers and publishers (The Home Depot, This Old House). Typical prices come from HomeGuide’s national cost data. Each page lists its sources at the bottom.
Prices are national ballparks. They vary a lot by region and season, which is why every calculator lets you enter your own.

A Note on Ads
WheelbarrowMath is free and supported by advertising. Ads never change a calculator’s results, and we don’t recommend products or stores for money.
