What Drives the Price

  • Material and height. Taller fences use longer posts, deeper holes, and more boards.
  • Gates. Each gate adds hardware and extra posts.
  • Terrain. Slopes, rocky soil, and tree roots slow the digging.
  • Removal. Tearing out an old fence adds cost per foot.
  • Permits and rules. Many towns and HOAs limit fence height and placement; check before you order.

Building a fence yourself saves the labor, half the price in the example. The hard part is the posts: holes need to be deep enough for your frost line, and posts need to be plumb and in line. Call 811 before you dig. The fence calculator counts posts, rails, pickets, and concrete.
